You’ve bought some beard oil and brought it home but it’s been sitting in your bathroom cabinet for a week or two now.  Perhaps you just don’t know what to do with it.

After all, facial hair has always been a strong fashion statement. Besides, it can have great health benefits and can even help those in need, thanks to initiatives like Beardecember.

But we all know how easy it is for a beard to start looking scruffy.   Keep reading for our tips on how to apply beard oil.

The only reason why this happens is that a lot of men don’t know how to maintain their facial hair. Because the truth is, your beard needs some attention from time to time.

The men’s skincare industry in the UK is currently valued at £97bn and it’s only expected to grow, with predictions of it reaching £130bn by 2022.

It’s clear that an increasing number of men are taking time to groom themselves and, for many, that includes taking care of their beards.

Step 1: Make Sure Your Beard is Clean

It’s always a good idea to apply beard oil after you shower or, at least, wash your face with warm water.

The heat causes the pores on your face to open up, allowing the oil to really get into the skin and do its job from the root of your beard hairs.

Remember to lightly dry your beard with your towel, making sure to leave it a bit damp.

Step 2: Pour the Right Amount of Oil

In the beginning, this second step might be a bit tricky, but as oiling your beard becomes part of your beard grooming routine, you’ll understand how much you should be using.

A good way of determining the quantity is by how long you’ve been growing your beard.

From one to three months, use three to five drops. From three months to a year, use somewhere between five and ten drops. If it’s been growing for over a year, use at least 10 drops.

Step 3: Apply the Oil

And now, the fun part.

It’s important that you don’t apply the oil lightly on the surface of your beard. It’s only by covering your entire beard that the oil will do its job properly.

To make this easier for you, we’ll create substeps within this third step that form a little beard care routine. After a few times, it’ll become automatic for you to do all this:

  1. Spread the oil evenly on your hands.
  2. Massage the oil into your skin and the roots of your beard.
  3. Move on to the surface of your beard and apply it all over: front, sides, and chin.
  4. End by applying the oil to your moustache as well.

Step 4: Brush or Comb Your Beard

This final step is optional but it can be very helpful to ensure that you properly distribute the oil. Plus, it’ll put any wild beard hairs in place.
